Tiny Things at the Center of My Universe

This series is a multidisciplinary collection of stuff I made to avoid going insane while parenting small children. Meticulously arranging and recreating the objects of utter chaos often allowed me to appreciate the unchoreographed chaos, and I think of this project as an imperfect homage to invisible labor that yearns to be witnessed.

Can I Get a Redo?, 2024. Stop motion film. Thanks to Jonathan Cannon for the music.

A Simple Task, 2024. 11-minute performance.

In this performance, I sat at a desk attempting to read this (lightly) satirical daycare newsletter and copy down the important dates into my calendar. During this time, this soundtrack I created (to your right) played in the background. Behind me, a slideshow ran in which colored shapes periodically appeared on a black screen as cues for the audience members to try to get my attention with various distractions I invited them to perform.

Soundtrack credits: The song you hear on repeat behind the recorded voice memos is Tom Lehrer’s “The Elements,” which he released to the global public domain in 2022 (thanks, Tom!). The guitar track at the beginning is “Charlie’s March,” a traditional Celtic tune, performed by Jonathan Cannon.
